Dreaming of some of the best small Greek Islands

You may have been to some of the more well-known islands but with 6000 islands altogether scattered in the Aegean and Ionian seas there may well be some little bits of heaven you haven’t heard of yet.

Here are three you might like to think about:

Symi, Dodecanese.

This tiny island is a little gem. Many people visit for the day but not so many stay and they are missing such a treat. The impressive neoclassical harbour front is just the beginning, and a 50 minute ferry from Rhodes makes it easy to get to.

Ithaca, Ionian islands.

The legendary home of Greek hero Odysseus, this is a perfect place to get away from the crowds and delve into Greece’s mythical past. It’s less about beaches and more about walking, with scenic trails and picturesque villages that you will remember for a long time.

Koufonisia, Small Cyclades.

Measuring just 10 sq miles and with a population of less than 400 this is the place to go for real island life. Beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear water makes it perfect for couples or families who want to get away from it all. Visit in September and explore the historical old town and then relax on a beach with barely another person in sight!
