5 Best Destinations for a Spring Break Holiday

5 Best Destinations for a Spring Break Holiday

Spring is one of the most rewarding times of year to travel. Temperatures begin to rise, landscapes feel fresh and colourful, and many destinations are far more enjoyable before the peak summer season arrives. A spring break offers the perfect balance of sunshine, culture and relaxation, without the crowds.

If you’re considering a spring escape, these five destinations, I believe are particularly well suited to travel at this time of year.

The Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are a consistently popular choice for spring travel, thanks to their mild, sunny climate and wide range of high quality resorts. Spring temperatures are warm but comfortable, making it an ideal time to enjoy both beach days and outdoor activities.

Each island offers something slightly different. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are known for their excellent resort infrastructure and dining, while Lanzarote appeals to those who appreciate striking volcanic landscapes and a quieter atmosphere. Spring is also perfect for coastal walks, gentle hiking and exploring traditional towns, all without the intensity of summer heat.

The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is particularly appealing in spring, when its dramatic coastline and charming towns can be enjoyed at a relaxed pace. The weather is warm enough for time outdoors, yet cool enough for sightseeing, walking and exploring.

Luxury resorts and boutique hotels are often quieter at this time of year, offering a more peaceful experience. Spring is also an excellent season for golf, making the Algarve a favourite with couples and groups who enjoy combining relaxation with activity. It’s an easy destination for a short break that still feels rewarding.

Italy

Italy truly comes into its own during spring. The countryside turns green, flowers bloom and cities feel vibrant without being overwhelming. This is one of my favourite times to explore Italy’s cultural highlights, from historic cities to scenic regions.

Spring is ideal for combining destinations, perhaps a city stay followed by time in the Italian Lakes or countryside. Dining outdoors becomes a pleasure, and sightseeing is far more comfortable than in the height of summer. Italy in spring offers an authentic, enjoyable travel experience with plenty of flexibility.

The Caribbean

Spring is an excellent time to visit the Caribbean, particularly for travellers seeking warmth and relaxation. The weather is settled, the seas are calm and the atmosphere is unhurried before the busier summer months begin.

Luxury resorts offer high standards of service and space, making it easy to unwind. Spring is also a good time for families, as resorts are less crowded and travel feels more relaxed. Whether you prefer a laid-back island or a more lively resort atmosphere, the Caribbean offers variety without compromise.

Morocco

Morocco is at its most comfortable and colourful in spring. Cities such as Marrakech are vibrant and full of life, while the surrounding landscapes provide opportunities for relaxation and exploration.

Spring temperatures make it ideal for wandering through markets, enjoying rooftop dining and experiencing Morocco’s distinctive culture. For those seeking something quieter, luxury riads, desert retreats or coastal resorts offer a peaceful contrast to the energy of the cities. It’s a destination that feels exotic without being overwhelming.

Why Spring Is Such a Good Time to Travel

Spring offers greater choice, better availability and a calmer travel experience overall. Hotels and resorts are often more flexible, and destinations feel more authentic before peak season begins. It’s also a great time to enjoy destinations at their best, without feeling rushed or crowded.
