5 Great Reasons to Take a Holiday in September

September is one of those months that can easily be overlooked when planning a holiday.

The peak summer season may be coming to an end, families are returning to their usual routines and attention often starts turning towards autumn. But for many, September can actually be one of the best times of the year to get away.

From quieter resorts and warm sunshine to excellent food, beautiful scenery and the opportunity to enjoy a more relaxed pace, there is plenty to like about a September holiday.

For me it’s an excellent time to travel and so I would like to share five great reasons why you might want to consider travelling in September.

1. Enjoy Your Destination Without the Peak Season Crowds

One of the biggest attractions of travelling in September is that many popular destinations begin to feel a little more relaxed.

As the main school holiday period comes to an end, beaches can become quieter, restaurants may be easier to book and popular attractions often feel less crowded. This can make a huge difference to your overall holiday experience.

Whether you’re wandering around a beautiful European city, enjoying a leisurely lunch by the sea or simply finding a peaceful spot by the pool, September often allows you to experience a destination at a slower and more enjoyable pace.

For those of us who prefer to avoid the busiest weeks of the year, it can be an ideal time to go.

2. The Weather Can Be Just Right

If you’ve ever found yourself searching for shade during the height of summer, September could be the answer. Across many parts of Europe and the Mediterranean, temperatures can remain wonderfully warm while becoming more comfortable than during the hottest weeks of July and August. It’s an excellent time for combining relaxation with a little exploration.

You might spend the morning discovering a historic town, enjoy a long lunch overlooking the sea and still have plenty of time for the beach or pool later in the day.

Destinations such as Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Turkish coast can all offer plenty of sunshine well into September.

3. You May Find Better Value

Once the busiest summer travel period begins to ease, there can sometimes be opportunities to find better value. That doesn’t necessarily mean choosing the cheapest holiday. For me, it’s about finding the best overall value for the experience you’re looking for.

September can sometimes mean more choice of flights and hotels, attractive offers and the opportunity to enjoy a higher standard of accommodation for a similar budget.

Of course, the best options can still get booked quickly, particularly at popular hotels and resorts, so it pays to start looking early.

This is where having someone else do the searching can make things much easier.

4. It’s a Wonderful Time for Food, Wine and Local Experiences

September is a particularly special month for those who enjoy discovering the food and culture of a destination.

Across parts of Europe, vineyards and rural areas are coming alive with the harvest season. It’s a fantastic time to explore regions such as Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, where you can combine beautiful scenery with local food, wine and authentic experiences.

Imagine enjoying lunch overlooking the Tuscan countryside, visiting a vineyard during harvest season or discovering local food festivals in a beautiful European town. For food lovers, September offers a wonderful opportunity to experience a destination in a different way.

5. Give Yourself Something to Look Forward To

A September holiday can also be the perfect opportunity to pause and recharge. After a busy summer, before the darker months arrive and with Christmas still some way off, it can be a wonderful time to escape for a little sunshine, relaxation and quality time.

Whether that’s a week by the Mediterranean, a luxury city break, a wellness retreat or a longer adventure somewhere further afield, a September holiday can provide exactly the reset you need.

Sometimes you don’t need a special occasion to go away. You simply need an excuse, and September offers plenty of them.
